Author Guidelines

General Information

SHACRAL: Shari’ah Economics Review Journal publishes original, high-quality research articles that contribute to theoretical development, empirical evidence, and policy discussion in Islamic economics, finance, and related fields. Manuscripts submitted must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere.

Manuscript Structure

Manuscripts should be organized in the following order:

  1. Title
  2. Author Information
  3. Abstract
  4. Keywords
  5. Introduction
  6. Literature Review
  7. Research Methods
  8. Results and Discussion
  9. Conclusion
  10. Declaration of AI Use
  11. Acknowledgements (optional)
  12. References
  13. Appendices (if any)

Manuscript Length and Format

  • Manuscript length: 10–15 pages, including references and appendices.
  • Paper size: A4 (21 × 29.7 cm).
  • Margins: 2.5 cm (all sides).
  • Line spacing: single-spaced.
  • Font: Times New Roman throughout the manuscript.

Title

  • The title should be clear, concise, and informative, reflecting the core contribution of the study.
  • Written in Times New Roman 14 pt, bold, uppercase, center-aligned, single-spaced.
  • Capital letters are used at the beginning of each major word.

Author Information

  • Author names are written without academic titles, using Times New Roman 11 pt, bold, center-aligned.
  • Institutional affiliation and email address are written in Times New Roman 11 pt, regular, center-aligned, single-spaced.
  • For multiple authors, affiliations must be clearly identified.

Abstract

  • The abstract must be written in English, in one paragraph, and not exceeding 200 words.
  • It should briefly state:
  • research background and objectives,
  • methodology,
  • key findings, and
  • main contributions.
  • The abstract must not contain citations, equations, tables, or figures.
  • Formatting: Times New Roman 10 pt, italic, single-spaced.

Keywords

  • Keywords are written in italics, placed immediately after the abstract.
  • Consist of 3–5 keywords or phrases, separated by semicolons.

Introduction

  • Written in Times New Roman 12 pt, justified, single-spaced, with the first paragraph indented 1 cm.
  • The introduction should include:
  • background and motivation,
  • problem formulation,
  • research objectives,
  • relevant theoretical framework, and
  • review of related literature highlighting the research gap.
  • Subheadings are not required in this section.
  • Minimum length: approximately 1,500 words.

Literature Review

  • Times New Roman 12 pt, justified, single-spaced, first paragraph indented 1 cm
  • Provides a critical and analytical review of relevant theories, concepts, and previous studies
  • Must clearly identify:
  • theoretical framework,
  • key debates in the literature,
  • empirical gaps addressed by the study
  • Authors are encouraged to engage with recent and high-impact international publications
  • Subsections may be used if necessary

Research Methods

  • Written in Times New Roman 12 pt, justified, single-spaced, first paragraph indented 1 cm.
  • This section must clearly describe:
  • research design and approach,
  • data sources and sample selection,
  • variables and measurement,
  • data collection procedures, and
  • data analysis techniques.
  • The chosen methodology must be appropriate to the research objectives and data characteristics.

Results and Discussion

  • This section presents empirical or theoretical findings, followed by interpretation and discussion.
  • Authors may use subsections to organize the discussion.
  • Results should be clearly explained and linked to existing theories and previous studies.
  • Avoid repeating numerical results already shown in tables or figures; instead, emphasize interpretation and implications.

Tables and Figures

Tables

  • Tables must be numbered consecutively (e.g., Table 1, Table 2).
  • Table titles are placed above the table, written in Times New Roman 11 pt, bold.
  • Table content uses Times New Roman 10–11 pt, single-spaced.
  • Notes and sources are placed below the table, written in Times New Roman 10 pt.
  • Tables should be editable (not images).

Figures

  • Figures must be numbered consecutively (e.g., Figure 1, Figure 2).
  • Figure captions are placed below the figure, written in Times New Roman 11 pt.
  • Figures must be clear, high-resolution, and readable in black and white.
  • Sources must be provided if figures are reproduced or adapted.

Conclusion

  • The conclusion summarizes the main findings and contributions of the study.
  • It should directly address the research objectives and problem formulation.
  • Policy implications and suggestions for future research may be included.
  • No new references or data should be introduced.

Declaration of AI Use

Authors must disclose the use of generative AI or AI-assisted tools.

Statement format:

During the preparation of this manuscript, the author(s) used [name of AI tool] for [specific purpose, e.g., language editing or translation]. The author(s) reviewed and edited the content and take full responsibility for the final version of the manuscript.

The use of AI to generate ideas, analyze data, or draw conclusions is strictly prohibited.

Acknowledgements (Optional)

Acknowledgements may include funding sources, institutional support, or individuals who contributed to the research but do not qualify as authors.

References

  • All cited works must appear in the reference list and vice versa.
  • References should primarily consist of peer-reviewed journal articles.
  • Citation style follows the author–date system.

Example (Journal Article):

Citation and Notes

  • In-text citations use the format: (Author, Year) or (Author, Year, page).
  • Footnotes may be used for additional explanations.
  • Footnotes are written in single spacing, with the first line indented.

Ethical Statement

  • Authors must ensure originality, proper citation, and avoidance of plagiarism.
  • Any potential conflict of interest must be disclosed.
